I have had very good intentions of making the first blog post here next week (January 1, 2012), but I couldn’t wait a moment longer. I’m so thankful to everyone who has already subscribed to this new blog and to show my appreciation, I’m posting a few days early.
I also have an incentive for you.
I’m nice like that.

The first gift pays homage to my homestate, the Bluegrass State, Kentucky. This particular cookbook has not been released, but Yours Truly pre-ordered her copy (and one extra) months ago in anticipation of giving it to a lucky blog reader. (You’re welcome!) Kentucky Monthly magazine is awesome, it makes my skirt fly up. If I wore skirts. But I don’t.
I digress.
Nothing says Texas like a juicy steak. (Yum!) Living in Texas, there’s a steakhouse located on nearly every street corner. In other states, I’m not so sure. Which is why I’m giving the winner their choice in gift card. Maybe you have a preference, maybe you don’t. For restaurant locations, visit Longhorn and Texas-Roadhouse.
To enter, simply answer the following question in a comment:
How do you like your steak?
Maybe you like it Texas-rare or so well-done it could suffice as shoe leather. Or, topped with creamy bleu cheese. Or sauteed mushrooms. Or naked. Whatever makes you say, “Mmmm” add a comment and you’re done!
- Giveaway ends Saturday, January 7 at 9:00 pm.
- To be extra nice and awesome, you should subscribe to this blog and receive email updates.
- Winner must provide a valid U.S. mailing address to receive their gifts.
I’m hungry now.

Medium-well. Normal seasoning. Maybe with sautéed mushrooms and onions if I’m in the mood. Sometimes I dip it ranch (I am from Texas!!).

I love a steak cooked medium well that has been marinated in teriyaki, pineapple juice, fresh parsley & garlic!

Mmmmm… medium rare please, smothered in sauteed mushrooms with a glass of fine wine, some candle light, my favorite guy, and a roaring fire in a natural stone fireplace, looking out on a snow covered landscape… ahhhh …. of course I’m dreaming but that looks, sounds, and tastes delicious, I’m sure!

Mmmmm girl! As I am stalking your page this am, you are making me hungry! My favorite is Texas Roadhouse! Good ole cinnamon butter! I like my steaks with no pink but not cooked tough either. And of course naked with no sauce! I think it ruins the taste to add sauce to it. Now my husband will say “throw on some of that famous Edwards sauce on it!” He puts that sauce on everything (LITERALLY) Hope you had a great Christmas and have a great New Year! Love ya cuz!

Hi Nicole,
I love my steak medium-well. Just plain with a little seasoning will do. Thanks!

I like my steak medium. And, if it’s good steak, it doesn’t need anything on it. Otherwise, pass the A-1!

I was a vegetarian for 2 years when I was 13-15…I read Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle at waaaayyy too young of an age (my brother said he’d pay me $10 to do a book report for him – he never paid). Go literature!!! Then, one day…I wanted a steak! Daddy was ever so proud.
I like them seasoned in many ways but it doesn’t matter how it’s seasoned if it isn’t cooked well. I like mine cooked medium – pink in the middle. Brandon likes them rather rare, but due to his Crohn’s, we don’t often eat beef, which is hard on a Wyoming man. He’s limited to about once a month, so when we partake – we relish it!! Last night, I made individual Beef Wellingtons and they were delish!

Medium rare, broiled or grilled, with garlic and s&p. Sauteed onions and mushrooms are a nice touch when available too. ~ Lynda

When it comes to steak, as long as they aren’t charred through and through, I’ll take it!
But really Nicole, I like mine medium rare. Warm through and through, with a little juice on the plate.
Oh Man….my mouth is watering and I’m starving myself to death!

I don’t like mine bloody, but I don’t like them tough either. What would you call that?

I don’t eat a lot of steak, but when I do eat steak, I usually get a filet mignon, butterflied, medium to medium-well. I used to always order it medium, but I once had a quite undercooked one that was a little raw/cold in the middle, and it was somewhat traumatizing… =)
The best filet mignon I ever had came out sizzling in butter on a cast iron skillet and was topped with the most amazing blue cheese I have ever tasted — that was in St. Maarten this summer. The second best filet mignon I ever had came out butterflied, cooked a perfect medium, and topped with gorgonzola garlic butter — that was in Chicago.

I take mine medium rare! ;o)

mmm..steak..not too many steaks find their way into the mouth of a 20 year old college student…unless it comes in a frozen dinner or a Ramen noodle flavor…
But on the off chance that there was a steak in front of me it would be medium well..no pink, but not burnt. mmmm a little A1..that’s the stuff.
Juggling school, work, and church leaves no time or money for steak…but a person could dream.

I like mine medium – with just a little pink in the center. And I
really like to taste the beef if it’s good – doesn’t need a lot
of dressing up.

So well done it could suffice shoe leather!
