A Luxurious Giveaway! {winner announced}

Thanks to all who entered this contest. The winner of the AHAVA gift set is #4 Celeste Z. Congrats!!!!

ahavawww.ahavaus.com

When I committed to touring the Holy Land and visiting Israel, I was most excited for three things: walking the streets of Jerusalem’s Old City; eating the freshest fruits and vegetables the Fertile Crescent had to offer; and riding a boat on the Sea of Galilee. Lucky for me, I did all three. Not to discount the powerful experience of visiting significant religious and historic places, the opportunity to swim float in the Dead Sea was pretty awesome too! I massaged the nutrient-rich black mud and salty water onto my skin and floated as if I were sitting in a chair. A half-hour in the Dead Sea made my skin look great and feel softer. One person in my tour group said I looked 25 years younger … I think she was exaggerating a bit!

What does NOT need exaggeration is the amount of AHAVA | Dead Sea Products I stuffed in my bag on the return flight back to Texas. The generous airline employee put a “heavy” sticker on my suitcase but didn’t charge me for exceeding the weight limit by 11 pounds. Bless her heart. I explained that I tried extremely hard to support the local economy. Husband’s credit card bill proves my valiant effort.

Because I want you to experience the luxurious bliss of the Dead Sea, I’m giving one AHAVA Color Me Smooth Gift Set (valued at $68.00). The set contains:

color-me-smoothFirming Body Cream
Firming Hand Cream
Purifying Mud Soap
Exfoliating Soap Holder
Colorful cosmetic bag

Entering is simple — leave a comment on this post explaining what you like (or dislike) about this blog, Three 31. If you have a suggestion, share that too. =)

The giveaway starts now, and ends Wednesday, February 27 at midnight CST. I’ll use a random number generator to select the winner.

DISCLAIMER: This not a sponsored post. You must have a U.S. mailing address to enter too.

{winner announced} Copper River Bag Co.

The winner of the amazing leather bag from Copper River Bag Company is ……..

Congratulations, Mrs. Steele!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a couple of things that make me squeal in delight … one is going home to Kentucky and the other is an opportunity to review a Copper River Bag Co. camera bag and give it away to a lucky blog reader. That’s right, as much as I want to keep this beauty, one of *Y-O-U* will be the proud owner of this beautifully crafted, hand-stitched leather camera bag with an adjustable leather shoulder strap and padded insert.

Before I even opened the box, I could smell the rich leather. The aroma was divine. It was everything good and pleasurable all rolled into one. Leather always reminds me of rugged cowboys and horses, and soft, luxurious comfort. Lucky for me, I have a rugged cowboy,
a loveable horse, and soft leather furniture. We also have a barn and cattle trailer that make for great backdrops for a fabulous leather bag! Blue gave this bag his smell test … but was disappointed when he realized no treats were inside.

If you prefer a run of the mill, plain Jane, BORING bag for your camera, keep looking. Copper River is NOT boring!!!!!! They are not plain and they’re certainly not vanilla. They are, however, perfectly “imperfect” and made to order right here in the U.S.A. I think the scuff marks enhance the bag’s character. After waiting two weeks for this bag to arrive, I knew it was created with talented hands of someone in Nevada City, California. Visit their website to watch craftsmen measure, cut, sew, and assemble the leather goods.

Besides the incredible craftsmanship and durability, this camera bag is the perfect size.
It’s not too small, but not too big either. For review purposes, I placed my Nikon DLSR camera and two lenses inside. They fit perfectly and were protected with the padded insert. There was also room for my Kindle, cell phone, and keys. My friend has an iPad and it fit in a side pocket too. There are pockets inside and out, with plenty of room for most photography equipment and even your iPad or small laptop. Oh, what I would have done to have had this bag in Washington, D.C. a few weeks ago!!!!!

If you’re like me and worry about the safety of your camera and equipment in a bag, no worries. This bag includes three (3) durable brass snaps to ensure the bag will remain closed whether you carry it by the handle (on top) of use the adjustable shoulder strap.

This bag is definitely worth its price tag – less than $150. The fine-quality leather is second to none. It is extremely durable and will only get better with age. As with any leather product, it is water-resistant and will soften over time. Speaking of time, Copper River guarantees all of their products for 100 years. That’s a long time, folks! It means they stand behind everything they sell and believe in their quality.

Entries will be verified before the winner is announced. Participants are limited to ten (10) entries, as described above, and must have a valid email address.

Open to U.S. residents only.

This giveaway ends Sunday, August 5.

For more information about Copper River Bag Co., visit their website, find them on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

Alright, now enter this contest!!!!! Be sure all qualifying comments are published to this blog post and *GOOD LUCK*!!!!!

Giveaway Results (and a *SURPRISE*) — “The Organic God” by Margaret Feinberg

I normally don’t publish a separate post for giveaway winners but I’m doing something a little different this time. I’m having a moment of gracious-explosion-ness (I know, that’s not a word) and I’m spreading some serious generosity ’round these parts.

I’ve waited since Sunday night to announce this. I used Random.org to be fair, and I confirmed shipment details. I cannot keep the secret a moment longer.

Well …. just a second.

I must express my appreciation and gratitude to every single person who participated. This was one of the largest responses to date at Three 31. You make it worthwhile, thank you!

Next, Margaret Feinberg has been an incredible friend to me. She and Leif (her husband) have been so generous with event tickets, product giveaways, personal letters, and support for my mission trip to Haiti that I decided to EXPAND this giveaway for her summer book club – which begins June 11.

Are you ready for the big reveal?

What if I said there was something “extra” included?

Are you ready now?

Okay …. here goes.

In my meager attempt to say THANK YOU to Margaret and THANK YOU to you (blog readers), I am providing not two ….. not three ….. but FOUR sets of The Organic God to some very special people.

Here are the winners:

Again, I cannot express how thankful I am to blog readers and Margaret. If you did not win, I hope you’ll visit Margaret’s website and purchase the set of materials before June 10. The products are priced RIDICULOUSLY LOW ($34.99) for the book, DVD set, and a participant’s workbook. This is the whole she-bang and Margaret will definitely rock your socks with this deal. I wish I could buy a set for every giveaway participant, but then my bank account would be zero and the water and electric companies would turn off our utilities. It’s nearly 100-degrees and this girl needs A/C. But I still love y’all.

To the winners: congratulations and please enjoy this gift.

To all of you: have a blessed day.

Smiling because I can,

*The Organic God* ~ Summer Book Club with Margaret Feinberg {giveaway}

Before you finalize your summer plans, I’d like to invite you to a book club, hosted by Margaret Feinberg, reading the *THE ORGANIC GOD*.

The first time I read *THE ORGANIC GOD* was 2002. It was a gift from my aunt who had read it with her book club in Louisville, Kentucky. Before I finished the first page, I knew it was a book that I would enjoy. Margaret uses simplistic language (in all of her books!) and it’s like she’s sitting next to me and we are in conversation.

I describe God has organic. While it’s a word usually associated with food grown without chemical-based fertilizers or pesticides, organic is also used to describe a lifestyle: simple, healthful, and close to nature. Those are the things I desire in my relationship with God. I hunger for simplicity. I want to approach God in childlike faith, wonder, and awe. I long for more than just spiritual life but spiritual health — whereby my soul is not just renewed and restored by becomes a source of refreshment for others. Such a God-infused lifestyle requires me to step away from any insta-grow shortcuts and dig deep into the soil of spiritual formation found only in God.

Beginning June 11, Margaret will lead an online book discussion from her website. Every Monday, she will post insights from *THE ORGANIC GOD*. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with a group or Sunday school class, yet it’s perfectly suited for individuals too.

JOIN ME!!!!!!!!!

Listening to God’s voice requires more than just my ears; it requires my eyes, my mind, my spirit, my entire being to recognize the God-nudges in my life. Deep down inside I still hunger for a true, pure relationship with the Organic God — the One True God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In him is found the mysterious wonder of the Trinity. He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

For the giveaway, I’m offering ONE (1) set complete with *THE ORGANIC GOD* book, workbook, and DVD series.

If you would rather purchase now, click HERE. The set is normally $130, but Margaret has deeply discounted it for the summer reading series and you can purchase the entire set for $34.99. WHAT. A. DEAL.

To enter, simply answer this question in a comment below:

WHAT ARE YOUR SUMMER PLANS?

* please include your name and email address in the comment form *

This giveaway ends Sunday, June 3 at 9:00pm Central. The winner will be notified by email and the set will be mailed shortly after. Margaret’s weekly blog series begins June 11.

I hope you will join me this summer reading *THE ORGANIC GOD* with Margaret, it’s one of my favorite books and I know you’ll enjoy it too!

Good luck and please share this giveaway with others via social media.

Blessings to you,
Nicole

This giveaway is sponsored by Nicole at Three 31. The giveaway winner will be notified via email. The quicker that person replies, the sooner they will receive their gift set. Easy-peasy!

One Day Without Shoes {2012} + a giveaway (Winner Announced!!!!!)

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2012 One Day Without Shoes event, the movement is still abuzz on social media and I’m glad to have been a part of the great cause. I’m also grateful to everyone who entered the *TOMS* giveaway here at Three 31. I wish I had something to give to each of you, but I’ve got good news for somebody.

The *WINNER* of the *TOMS* giveaway will receive a copy of Blake Mycoskie’s book, Start Something That Matters.

Pancua says:

I’d never heard of TOMS before I entered their giveaway for the Essie nail polish. After entering, I went to the website and read all about the company and their passion to get the movement out to as many people as possible. And if that was not enough, they have some really cute styles that I think hit just about every style out there. I think that is such an awesome idea.

Congratulations, Pancua ~ check your email for a note from me requesting your contact information. I’ll send your book first thing Monday morning.

Have a wonderful weekend!

***************************************************************

Tomorrow is the day TOMS raises awareness about the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. For one day, lots ~ and I mean LOTS ~ of people around the world go barefoot for ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES. This movement is growing in popularity and the message is loud and clear: a child’s life can be saved with a pair of shoes.

Some people have already uploaded their promotional posters to TOMS.com. This is one of my favorites with homemade signs and 40 toes. They have pretty toes. Me? Not so much. Eeek!

I went without shoes in 2011. Now that I’m at school with a strict dress code, I can’t go barefoot. Instead, I will support ODWS by wearing my TOMS.

The reality is sad … millions of children do not have shoes and are exposed to injury and diseases, plus many are denied an education because they own no shoes.

During my trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, I learned that children must have the proper uniform and shoes before they can enroll for school. For many families, this is simply too much to afford.

TOMS shoes has a simple mission: One for One. It’s a genius concept that has proved its vitality. Chief shoe-giver (that’s a humble way of saying CEO) Blake Mycoskie wrote a book, Start Something That Matters (available on Amazon), and I was chosen to be a participant in his Books for Bloggers campaign. I received two copies of his book – one to read and keep in my personal collection and other to give away. One for One continues!

*********************************** GIVEAWAY TIME **********************************

To enter the giveaway, answer the following question in the comments section of this post.

What do you like most about TOMS?

Maybe you like the simplistic design of the shoes … or the mission behind the business … or you think Blake’s curly hair is super-duper-fan-tabulous. Whatever floats your boat about TOMS, share it and you’re automatically entered to win!

The Rules

One entry per person, please.

Winner will be selected at random and announced Friday, April 13 at 9:00pm.

Good luck and have a great week, Y’all!!!!

If you decide to participate in the TOMS event, visit OneDayWithoutShoes.com to get updates. Spreading awareness is easy, and changes lives.

{WINNER ANNOUNCED} My First Online Photography Class with Bella Pop {giveaway}

Thanks to everyone who entered this giveaway and Brandy at Bella Pop for sponsoring and providing this great prize.

And the winner is ……….

Congratulations, Diane!!!!!! Check your email for details about how to claim your super-duper-awesome prize from Bella Pop Photography.

Last summer, I purchased a “seat” for a photography class led by Brandon and Brandy at Bella Pop Photography. We met near the museum district of Fort Worth in the middle of the summer. To say the least, it was hot. Like, 110-degrees hot. The sweaty details are disgusting, but the techniques were very helpful.

Lucky for me, Brandy began a new branch in her professional photography business: online classes. She was even nice enough to invite me to her pilot launching of Shooting in Manual 101. In this class, participants learned the basics of shutter speed, exposure, ISO, aperture, metering, and white balance. Now, before my classes with Bella Pop, all of this was Greek to me.

One thing I really liked about the online class was the private Facebook group. It provided the perfect opportunity for class participants to share their photos and receive creative feedback. By posting my photos, I learned a great deal from Brandy’s feedback.

This is a great detail shot of a guy enjoying the weather. The exposure looks great too. Overall, a super cute pic!

Of course, not all of my photos were up to par, but that did not stop Brandy from providing constructive comments:

Oh I love sunsets! This picture is very cool… love the colors! The exposure looks great for the sky. Next time I would try a shutter speed of 1/125 to bring down the ISO some, just because that sky is so pretty and you can see the grain. Of course, it would be even better on a tripod and an ISO of 100, but I’m often without my tripod. You did great Nicole!

The photo of the rain gauge surprised me as I intended to focus on Blue instead ….. but mistakes sometimes turn into a good thing!

I really like this image. The colors are fab! This is a great example of shallow depth of field to isolate the subject, while still implying the scene. That being said, I might love this photo even more if Blue was a bit more in focus – not totally focus, still blurry, just more discernible features. It’s still lovely though.

One of my all-time favorite photos was also an excellent example of depth of field. Of course, I didn’t realize it at the time, but I’m still learning!

Excellent example of a great depth of field. I can see the texture on the truck and the lines in the grain towers. I couldn’t imagine shooting this image with a different aperture. Everything in focus was the way to go!

Brandy is sweeter than my sweet tea (c’mon, y’all know that’s gotta be sah-weet!!!!) and I’m uber-impressed with her talents. Just look at her photos, the clarity is INSANE ….. I swear it’s like she’s standing right in front of me!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Because Brandy is so awesome, spectacular, wonderful, and gracious, she is offering ONE lucky reader a $60 CREDIT for any online photography course offered at Bella Pop.  Brandy offers classes covering the full spectrum of photography techniques: from basics (manual mode), to creative composition, and shooting in natural light. You do NOT need a fancy-schmancy camera to participate, classes are compatible with point-and-shoots too!

To enter, visit BellaPop.com and answer this question in a comment:

Which photography class are you most interested in and why?

For additional entries, add a comment for EACH instruction below:

*WINNER ANNOUNCED* Small Business Spotlight: Curly Willow Collections { giveaway }

Congratulations to the WINNER of the Curly Willow Collections gift card set. I’m so thankful to Vicki for hosting this very special event at my blog and I hope others will visit and purchase her incredible merchandise.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to the winner ……..

Welcome to Small Business Spotlight, a special feature post at Three 31.

Curly Willow Collections features handmade products and custom designed artwork. Visit Vicki’s blog, Vicki Designer and Etsy store, Curly Willow Collections.

A big THANKS to Vicki for sharing her business and sponsoring a giveaway too ….. details below!

Why did you start an online store, blog, and website?
I’ve been doing graphic design for over 25 years. (Yes, I’m much older than most bloggers out there. ha) And I’ve always had to design based on my client’s aesthetic. I never really had the opportunity to design for me. I didn’t even know if I was good at it.

In November of 2010, I convinced my best friend to start a blog with me where we could show and tell about our designs (www.curlywillowdiy.blogspot.com) She is definitely gifted at interior decorating. Her home is always beautiful and I wanted to let people know about it. So, after we blogged together for a year. I felt the need to break off and find my own way, my own following. The Etsy store came about simply because I really needed to make some extra money. The economy was tanking and we were feeling it. I have a part time job where I work from home. But I also wanted to contribute a little more as well.

Describe your style.
Gosh, this is a hard one for me. After designing so much for others, I really had no idea what would come out of me when I had time to design pretty things for me. I think the only way to describe my style right now is girly, but a work in progress.

What type of equipment do you use?
Adobe Photoshop is my main man! It does everything I need it to do. I love working in it and I know I still don’t know everything it can do. It’s some powerful software… it’s got great muscles!

What ONE item could you NOT live without?
Probably being in tune with my emotions. I usually design best based on my mood

Please provide a brief explanation of your business and work flow.
My children are grown for the most part. I have a daughter, 25, who is married and lives on the west coast. My two sons are 19 and 17. So, one is in college and one is in high school. But, they are self sufficient. As long as their dinner is prepared, I can do whatever I want!!!!! Plus, I work and design throughout the day, sometimes to music, sometimes to movies. Just depends on what I feel like that day.

Do you have a creative “oops” that you can share?
I don’t really have a creative oops, but I definitely have many, many designs, or drawings that I do not sell because I’m not completely happy with the way they look.

What do you consider beautiful?
I love all design. I truly believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All design, whether interior design, art, patterns, illustrations, or nature, inspires me.

What brings joy to your life?
I love taking care of people. I love cooking for my family, and I love designing and expressing myself.

Are you a self-taught web manager, graphic artist, and business owner or did someone show you the ropes?
I have an Associates design in Commercial art from a technical school. I was not a good student growing up. I learn best by doing and I have ADD, so a classroom setting was brutal. But, I excelled in design school and it was the first time I got straight A’s. I was happy when I found my place in the world. However, when I was in design school, there were no computers to help you design, everything was done on paste-up boards and we had to send out for type. I went back to school to take a refresher course in Adobe software about 15 years ago. Before that, and since then, I taught myself.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere. I am most inspired by God’s creation. I think most designers and artists would say the same.

Have you ever found yourself in a “creative funk,” and, if so, how did you get out?
Oh yeah, I get tired and need a break. Sometimes, breaks are a few hours, a few days, or even a few weeks. It just depends on what I see that will inspire me next. I don’t do anything specific to try to get me out of my creative funk. I accept that part of the process. In any job, everyone needs some down time to rejuvenate.

You have many creative outlets, which provide you with the most satisfaction?
I like making connections with the people who buy my art and ask them where they will be using it. I love the stories they share with me.

What is one lasting impression you want to leave in your work?
I want my art to have made a difference in someone’s life.

If you did not have a website and Etsy store, what would you be doing?
BE REALLY BORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To date, what has been your biggest accomplishment?
Not giving up! I think it’s super easy to try something and when you meet a fork in the road or it doesn’t go as well as you thought, tendencies are to quit. But, as I age (UGH!) I realize greatness comes from patience and perseverance.

Do you have any special plans in 2012 that you can share with us?
My goal for my business in 2012 to just to get my shop out their in the blogging community, to take risks in my designs and try something new each month. I do have a goal to make at least two putz/glitter houses each month and put them in my shop for sale in September for Christmas. I love the building and decorating process of those sweet little houses and I am finding I am good at it too.

In addition to answering these questions, Vicki is hosting a giveaway. One winner will receive an assortment of her custom cards. The set includes two (2) of the five designs featured above.
